At the end of 2025, Cross Country Carriers was proud to be win the Business of the Year (Medium/Large) at the Bury Free Press West Suffolk Business Awards 2025! This success reflected on the great year we’d had as a business and a team. We entered these awards to celebrate our drivers, office and logistics team who are endlessly dedicated to providing high standards to our customers. This recognition isn’t just a reinforcement of our excellent services, but also encouragement to strive for continuous improvement across logistics, efficiency and our sustainability efforts.

Why We Won

The award submission categories were split into several sections which included a variety of business, growth, community, culture and sustainability questions. Here were our contributions to some of the sections.

Business Strategy, Vision and Future Plans

Our aims are to provide flexible, dependable transport and logistics solutions that are tailored to our customer’s specific needs, whether that’s single pallet deliveries or contract haulage. We prioritise investing in modern, low-emission vehicles to reduce our environmental impact where possible. The majority of our fleet is now comprised of Euro 6 trucks and for our long-term sustainability strategy we’re exploring how we can integrate Electric Heavy Goods Vehicles (EV HGVs) into our fleet.

Our Key Achievements Over 12 Months

In the last year, we were proud to become members of one of the UK’s leading pallet distribution networks, Pallex. This has allowed us to significantly expand our reach across the UK and Europe, also enabling us to offer next-day, economy and timed deliveries.

In December 2024, we also achieved FORS Bronze and Silver Accreditations which reflects our high standards across safety, fleet efficiency and environmental responsibility. As well as this, we were awarded Platinum Pallet Network Status which recognised our exceptional performance in service levels, damage reduction and customer satisfaction within our pallet network.

Contributions to Our Local Community and Economy

Giving back to our community and contributing to our local economy are extremely important to us, which is why we support staff-led charity efforts, donate and engage with local schools and sports clubs and more. We recently sponsored a member of our customer service team who took part in the Race for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK. Our local schools, Risby School and Great Barton Primary School are both institutions we regularly donate and engage with. We’ve provided ongoing support to Bury St Edmunds Fire Department recently to help how they deal with emergencies involving HGVs. By using our vehicles for demonstration, they have been able to mock up an accident and find the safest way to help victims.

A big part of our community contributions is sponsoring several local sports clubs, including Haverhill Rovers Football Club, Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, Bury St Edmunds Football Club and Thetford Football Club. For these clubs particularly, this reinforces our wider belief in promoting health, teamwork and youth development. Over our years, we have built a strong belief that being a good employer also means being a good neighbour.

Company Culture

Maintaining a flat management structure allows us to keep open communication between directors and staff at every level. We actively encourage feedback and aim to implement this when put forward by staff. Celebrating our staff achievements, both individual and team, are important to us. This recognition includes shoutouts on social media platforms, as well as events and seasonal gifts to highlight out appreciation and make our staff feel valued.

Sustainability Initiatives

We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact where we can. Part of this is being proud active members of United Pallet Network (UPN), which is one of the first UK pallet networks to offer fully carbon neutral deliveries (enabled through a partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain).

As well as using a fleet of Euro 6-compliant vehicles, we regularly explore and invest in new models that are more eco-friendly. In addition to this, our drivers undergo eco-driving training to optimise fuel use and reduce idling which is monitored via telematics. Through a combination of Carbon Neutral Britain certification via UPN, eco-driving, fleet modernisation and waste management, we have made every effort to embed sustainability into all of our operations.

Moving Forward

After over 45 years of business, we’re continuing to focus on sustainable growth, service innovation and maintaining our reputation as the go-to, trusted logistics partner.

Our aim is to continue utilising pallet networks to scale our daily output, taking advantage of its carbon-neutral platform and national reach. We’re hoping to introduce Electric HGVs and EV vans over the next 2-3 years, building on our sustainability efforts.
